What a Wonderful Word Wednesday: Ochre

Unfortunately, I didn’t find time to make up a Wonderful Word sketch this week. Garden duties and sleep got first priority yesterday, and I don’t regret it a bit! Another nice occurrence was the appearance of my first sunflower of the year. The bloom was looking backward over the fence running along the back of our yard, so I almost missed it entirely. That would have been a shame; the pretty ochre petals arranged in a lovely little orb, towering above my head was a nice evening surprise as the sun sank low on the horizon.

That being said, the word of the week is ochre, an earthy usually red or yellow iron ore used as a pigment or the color describing said shade. According to Wikipedia, the shades range all over the color spectrum, including red, yellow, purple, brown, and umber.
